Man shot by ex's brother dies in hospital

Patrick Lewis died Friday after being shot earlier in the week

SAN ANTONIO – Patrick Lewis, 28, died in the hospital Friday after being shot by his ex-girlfriend's brother earlier in the week.

Lewis' family joined together in prayer Saturday and released balloons, symbolizing his journey to heaven, family members said.

"We (are) going to do some balloons and candles, and just let God lift him up to heaven and let him know how much he was loved," Patrick Lewis' mother, Patrice Lewis, said.

Police said Patrick Lewis was shot Monday by Dewayne Fletcher, 22, at a home in the 6700 block of Brothers Lane.

According to investigators, Patrick Lewis pulled a gun while arguing with Fletcher and Karon Lagail Johnson, 26, Lewis' ex and mother of his children. Fletcher also drew a gun and fired, hitting Lewis in the head.

He remained on life support until he died. Patrice Lewis said she can't believe her son is gone.

"What I miss the most is seeing that big old Kool-Aid smile of his, you know what I mean? I can pull up, my son come running outside (and saying), 'Hey Momma,' you know what I mean? I'm going to miss that," she said.

Patrice Lewis said she wants justice for her son, but her focus is now on her four grandchildren left without a father.

"He was my oldest son and I miss him dearly. He (has) four kids and I'm going to make sure that they have what they need, that (their) daddy was trying to get them and that was nothing but love," she said.

With Patrick Lewis' death, the charges against Fletcher have been upgraded to murder. Fletcher claims the shooting was in self-defense. He remained in the Bexar County Jail Saturday night.
