Texas ranch offers one-of-a-kind experience driving tank, using flame thrower

DriveTanks opened in fall 2016

UVALDE, Texas – It's a unique experience on an 18,000 acre ranch just west of San Antonio.

DriveTanks is the only place in the world where you can drive and fire fully functional tanks, artillery and machine guns both historic and modern.

The main attraction is the restored fleet of tanks. The headliner being the U.S. Sherman but the collection also includes the Russian T-34 and The British Chieftain just to name a few.

It's an experience that also comes complete with a modern military war museum and a collection of weapons.

"We have everything from modern firearms mostly on the left side and World War II weapons on the right side," said Todd DeGidio, co-founder of DriveTanks.

Visitors and thrill seekers can also fire artillery weapons like the U.S. M2A1 Light Howitzer, mortars and a Vietnam-era flame thrower.

It's a one-of-a-kind experience and it is catching on with people across the country since DriveTanks opened just six months ago.

"We initially thought we'd get the gun buffs that love guns and want to come out and be with the guns and shoot the guns but then we soon discovered that it was an equal mix of people that haven't even shot a gun that love the history about it," said DeGidio.
