Two iconic SA spots will go purple for domestic violence awareness month

SAN ANTONIO – On Monday, Family Violence and Prevention Services representatives and city officials will light the Tower of the Americas and Quarry smoke stacks purple in support of domestic violence awareness month.

The event is the first of its kind. The tower and smokestacks will remain lit until October 30.

Marta Peláez, president and CEO Family Violence Prevention Services, Inc., Amy Zuniga, a survivor of domestic violence, District 8 City Councilman Manny Peláez and SAPD Chief William McManus will assist in the lighting of the tower at 7:30 p.m. Monday.

According to a release, Bexar County has the highest rate of reported domestic violence per capita in Texas and one of the highest in the nation.
