UIL high school football is now in Week 6, and the marquee matchup this week will send the Kerrville Tivy Antlers (4-0, 1-0) to face the Davenport Wolves (3-1, 1-0).
Both teams won their District 13-4A-I openers last week. Tivy crushed LBJ Austin 70-14. Davenport topped Canyon Lake 56-41.
In Tivy’s win, starting quarterback Cohen Stehling set a new school record for passing yards in a single game with 515 yards and eight touchdowns. The sophomore topped the previous mark of 503 yards set by Johnny Manziel in 2010.
Manziel would later star at Texas A&M, winning the Heisman Trophy in 2012.
Davenport quarterback Tristan Torrez was stellar as well, passing for 319 yards and five touchdowns while rushing for another score. The junior is a dynamic dual-threat quarterback.
Tivy is averaging 65.0 points per game while Davenport is putting up 43 points per contest this season. This matchup has the makings of a high-scoring affair, and both defenses will certainly be tested.
Davenport hosts Tivy on Friday at 7:30 p.m. at Davenport High School.
