Bexar County prosecutors have dismissed all criminal charges against a Leon Valley city councilman accused of assaulting the city’s then-police chief early last year.

Joseph Salvaggio is no longer the police chief of the Leon Valley Police Department. As the Leon Valley City Council works to move forward after a tumultuous period for its public officials, records obtained by KSAT 12 further revealed the rift between former Leon Valley Police Chief Joseph Salvaggio and council members before he was fired. KSAT 12 News has also requested Salvaggio’s personnel file, but Leon Valley officials are seeking a ruling from the attorney general’s office to withhold the records. LEON VALLEY, Texas – A 28-year-old man has been charged in connection with a police-involved shooting early Monday morning that left him critically wounded after he ran over a police officer with his vehicle, Leon Valley Police Chief Joseph Salvaggio said. Salvaggio said the officers suspected that Travis Ozuniga was driving drunk when they tried to stop him around 2:45 a.m. on Peachtree Street near Huebner Road. One of the officers asked Ozuniga to step out of the car more than 30 times to test him for suspected intoxication but he repeatedly refused, Salvaggio said. The injured officer was taken to the hospital, where he was treated and released. Ozuniga is charged with aggravated assault on a peace officer by deadly weapon, but more charges are pending, Salvaggio said.

San Antonio – A federal judge has temporarily stopped a hearing set before Leon Valley City Council on Monday, October 5th, to hear allegations of misconduct and disciplinary action against Councilor Will Bradshaw. “There have been two city councilors who have sued the city, former Councilor Benny Martinez and current Councilor William Bradshaw. Both are highly political and staff should not be involved in the Leon Valley political arena. "Pursuant to United State District Judge Biery’s Temporary Restraining Order, the City Council for the City of Leon Valley is cancelling the Special Meeting for October 5, 2020. Counsel for the City of Leon Valley will respond to the Court on behalf of the City asserting its Right to Proceed with the Special Meeting under Section 3.12."

SAN ANTONIO, TEXAS – A Leon Valley police officer and a driver both remain hospitalized after a violent clash early Monday. Leon Valley Police Chief Joseph Salvaggio said the officers believed the man was driving while intoxicated but he refused to cooperate with them. Investigators search the car that the suspect was driving when he allegedly ran over a Leon Valley police officer. He was run over by the vehicle and the other officer is the one who actually shot the individual,” Salvaggio said. KSAT 12 News placed several calls to the Leon Valley Police Department for updated information.

LEON VALLEY, Texas – Leon Valley police say an officer shot and wounded a driver who intentionally ran over another officer with his car early Monday morning. According to Leon Valley’s Chief of Police Joseph Salvaggio, the officers believe the man was driving while intoxicated and pulled over his car. He says soon after the driver refused to cooperate and it wasn’t long before things turned especially violent. The door came open and then he intentionally reversed it and ran over the officer.”A second officer fired the shots that hit the man, Salvaggio said. As of early Monday morning, police had not released the names of the officer or the suspect.

SAN ANTONIO – Police agencies in and around San Antonio are reporting different types of crime trends that have been noticed since the start of the year and the COVID-19 Stay at Home Order took effect. “Our residents are not getting cabin fever and having those issues at home like we see elsewhere,” he said. But he said vehicle burglaries are up 21%, criminal mischief is up 50%, while cases of forgery and fraud are up 89%. The police said there were stolen tools for ground maintenance, a 2002 Ford F-150 white truck with the school’s decal on the side and a utility trailer. An online look at the reports taken between March to April 2020 and compared to the same time in 2019 shows an increase in motor vehicle thefts, commercial burglaries, and robberies.

LEON VALLEY, TEXAS – A violent altercation between two men continues to be investigated by Leon Valley police. One man was shot twice at the intersection of Grissom and Shadow Mist roads on Dec. 7. “At what point do they flip from being a victim to a suspect or a suspect to a victim,” said Leon Valley Police Chief Joseph Salvaggio.
