Gustavo Caballero/Getty ImagesPaul McCartney is working on a stage adaptation of the 1946 film "It's A Wonderful Life," which will be the first musical of his long and storied career. Kenwright acquired the rights to "It's A Wonderful Life" three years ago, and contacted McCartney about working together on the project, which is set to launch in late 2020. For his part, Hall revealed that "It's A Wonderful Life" is his favorite film. Almanac: Ringo Starr's birthday

He grew up to become known as Ringo Starr, the drummer who in 1962 joined John Lennon, Paul McCartney, and George Harrison in the Beatles, as McCartney explained to CBS News' Anthony Mason. "When Ringo joined, then it was like a real rocket ship," McCartney said. "We were a real band then," Starr said. Since the breakup, Ringo has gone on to find success as a solo artist, and as front man for a revolving group of musicians known as Ringo Starr and his All-Starr Band. Prince then temporarily left Warner Music and established NPG Records, but reconciled with the label in 2014 after working out their differences. While Sony argued that they would have allowed Kesha to record music with Kemosabe Records under the auspices of a different producer, Kesha rejected this possibility. Without being legally allowed to break her contract, Kesha released a new single "Praying" in July 2017, and her third album, Rainbow, the following August. The move came after a major dispute with Arista Records and LaFace Records over the contract they intially signed in 1991.

Paul McCartney asks Texas university to stop testing on dogs

(CNN) - Noted animal rights activist Paul McCartney implored a Texas university to end its purported use of dogs as laboratory test subjects. In a letter published by PETA, McCartney asked Texas A&M University President Michael Young to halt muscular dystrophy research with golden retrievers and release them for adoption. The dogs, PETA said, were bred with the canine muscular dystrophy gene and held in metal cells. Texas A&M University did not immediately respond to a request for comment. There's currently not a cure for muscular dystrophy, the Mayo Clinic said.
