Witte Museum installs virus-killing air filters ahead of spring break
SAN ANTONIO โ The Witte Museum installed a state of the art HVAC system in 2017 with the โNew Witteโ expansion. This HVAC upgrade installed by Shafer with the new air purification system is improving the H-E-B Body Adventure, making the visiting space safer during the coronavirus pandemic. Museum officials on Tuesday said the new system can reduce 99.4% of COVID-19 air particles within 30 minutes of use. โThe air purification systems use ionization and UV light to reduce virus particles, making The Witte Museum one of the cityโs most advanced attractions and cultural institutions as far as pandemic health precautions,โ the release states. Witte Museum offers after school program for kids
SAN ANTONIO โ The Witte Museum is offering a new in-person after school program for kids that will focus on museum explorations and outdoor play, a press release said Wednesday. The parent-free program is for children ages 6-12 and will offer the opportunity to discover nature, science, and culture. โIn a time of distance learning, the Witte Team recognizes the importance of being outside and learning with others, in a safe space,โ remarked Helen Holdsworth, Chief of Engagement at the Witte Museum. โThe Witte Adventurers offers a flexible, fun and educational program that will include full exploration of the Witte and plenty of time outside, including some hikes into Brackenridge Park!โโWitte Adventurersโ is available select Mondays through Thursdays during the fall season from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m., the museum said. Witte Museum brings back โOde to Juneteenthโ play to rotation of theater performances
SAN ANTONIO โ The Witte Museum on Friday announced that the play โOde to Juneteenthโ will be brought back as part of the Gallery Theater performances that will be shown this fall. The play, written by nationally renowned playwright Eugene Lee, was first shown in 2018 as part of the Witteโs โConfluence and Culture: 300 Years of San Antonio Historyโ. The museum said they were bringing the play back in celebration of Juneteenth. According to a press release, โOde to Juneteenthโ follows Emancipation Jones, who begins the play by illuminating and commemorating Juneteenth in San Antonio by the reading of General Order No. The daily schedule of Gallery Theater and daily demonstrations can be found on both the Witteโs website and their app.
Santikos Theater, Ingram Park Mall reopen with new safety protocols
San Antonio โ Today's the day many local business owners have been waiting for. Some establishments, including restaurants, retailers, and museums in San Antonio can now reopen with limited capacity, based on Governor Greg Abbottโs plan to safely revive the stateโs economy. Ingram Park Mallโs doors are open again and about 20% of the stores inside are welcoming customers. They said it will take some time to implement the safety plan, but they plan on announcing a date soon. SAN ANTONIO โ The Witte Museumโs doors may be closed, but that doesnโt mean you canโt get inside! According to an early press release, โWitte Where You Areโ will offer online content from Witte Museum curators and educators featuring the Witteโs award-winning camp, demonstration and school program curriculum, as well as behind-the-scenes tours. The press release said the majority is video content, but almost every video will have additional activities and other educational resources that people can do at home.
