Hello parents, teachers and students!

Well, we’ve made it to the end of another school week, as fall is now quickly creeping upon us. Are you ready for some pumpkin patches and Halloween candy?

The Texas Department of State Health Services and the TEA recently released its first numbers of confirmed COVID-19 cases in public schools. Nearly 4,500 cases were reported in Texas. The total count of on-campus staff cases during that time is 2,175. Keep wearing your masks, everyone!

The three largest San Antonio school districts announced a drop in enrollment that was expected due to the pandemic. The decrease was primarily among Pre-K and kindergarten students since in Texas, those grades are not mandatory.

In this week’s KSAT Kids' teacher spotlight, we highlight Adam Voglewede, or “Mr. V”, who is in his first year teaching at Hoffmann Lane Elementary School after the previous art teacher retired. He created a rap video to introduce himself to students.

And don’t forget! KSAT Kids has recently teamed up with the San Antonio International Airport in the creation of a coloring book campaign and we want your colored pictures. If you send one in, we’ll try and show it in the GMSA@9 newscast!

Are you looking for a fun educational activity for your kids? Check out Meteorologist Kaiti Blake’s latest home science lab, one that creates a working rocket. Be sure to have parental supervision and goggles as they are extra important for this one.

For students seeking additional schooling help, the San Antonio Public Library is offering back-to-school resources to help with their lessons. We also have a list of places offering free Wi-Fi for students and their families during the pandemic.

Stay safe and wash your hands, everybody!
