Bill Gates to make $100 million donation to fight Alzheimer's, Dementia
Personal donation not related to Gates Foundation
SAN ANTONIO – Bill Gates, the billionaire co-founder of Microsoft, is making a huge personal donation in the fight against Alzheimer’s.
Gates will be donating $50 million to Dementia Discovery Fund and another $50 million toward Alzheimer’s research by way of start-ups.
“It’ll take probably 10 years before new theories are tried enough times to give them a high chance of success. So it’s very hard to hazard a guess (when an effective drug might be developed),” Gates said, according to Reuters.
Alzheimer’s is the most common form of dementia and affects nearly 50 million people worldwide.
One in three seniors dies with Alzheimer’s or another form of dementia, according to the Alzheimer’s Association.
