Metro Health hosts community baby shower

Participants offered immunizations, free health screenings

SAN ANTONIO – The San Antonio Metropolitan Health District hosted a community baby shower Wednesday for expecting mothers and families.

The event at Mission Event Center is part of Metro Health's Healthy Start program to improve infant health and healthy birth outcomes.

The baby shower featured traditional fun baby shower activities and educational presentations about safe sleep and shaken-baby syndrome.

"This is my second pregnancy. My daughter is 8, so it's a far gap, so I feel like I'm starting all over again. So, it's really good to refresh my memory," said Veronica Martinez, an expecting mother.

With more than 25 resources on site, the event offered immunizations and free health screenings for participants.

Another community baby shower will be held in November on the city's East Side.
