SAN ANTONIO – She is seen every night on ABC's World News with Diane Sawyer and Tuesday, KSAT intern Richard Escobedo will not only get to meet her in person, but will get to interview the woman who is usually the one asking questions.
"She (Sawyer) is an incredible journalist. She's able to talk to people and not just ask questions, but also have a conversation with them," Escobedo said.
Richard said it all started with a YouTube video he made explaining the reasons he admires Sawyer and why he wanted to sit down with her one on one.
A few hours after posting it, he got a surprising phone call from Diane herself.
"I've always said that if someone famous or someone important calls me, I'm going to keep my composure, I'm going to be this stout, professional person and that all went out the window, and I was beside myself," Escobedo said.
Richard said he plans to ask Sawyer about her impressive career, notable interviews she's done and questions just about her. It's a once in a lifetime event that he says he's ready for.
"Above all, the emotions I'm feeling are excitement and just humility. I can't believe she called me, for one," Escobedo said. "She's a real person, so I think all that coupled together with excitement and joy, it's exciting."
Escobedo is a student at Communication Arts High School at Northside ISD.
