KSAT clears up tricky SA traffic spots

Clearing up the confusion surrounding two tricky SA traffic spots

SAN ANTONIO – "Yield" and "merge" sound like two very simple rules of the road, but sometimes they are confused and abused. In several places around town, people do not pay attention to these important signs.

Yield: Slow down and yield to the right of way and be prepared to stop if necessary.

This sign means more than just trying not to hit the other guy. Many yield signs are on highway access roads and can apply to more than one lane, and there are some that take getting used to.

One of the most confusing areas in San Antonio is the Loop 1604 I-10 interchange. When getting off of 1604 to head east on I-10, a yield sign comes up before getting onto the interstate.

That yield sign is for the cloverleaf—essentially drivers must yield for those entering and exiting the highway via the cloverleaf ramps.

Another spot is the turnaround at Harry Wurzbach and 410, where there is a yield sign at the beginning of the turnaround and not at the end like most are used to. If your lane is ending, you must yield to the right of way to the lane that is not ending.

But, if you're in the non-ending lane, let the drivers trying to get over a break. Let one driver in at a time.
