SA mother, boyfriend charged in toddler's beating

SAPD: Jimmy Turner punched child in abdomen

SAN ANTONIO – A 2-year-old girl was recovering Friday after being badly beaten by her mother's boyfriend, police said.

According to an arrest warrant, paramedics responded to the child's home at 911 Angela Walk on May 17.

The child was taken to Christus-Santa Rosa Children's Hospital where members of the medical staff called police after finding the child had internal bleeding, a bruised abdomen and several rib fractures.

According to the affidavit, the mother's boyfriend, 30-year-old Jimmy Turner, "punched the victim on the abdomen many times."

The affidavit also claims Turner lifted the child violently by her arms, throwing her onto the bed or couch.

Turner was arrested and charged with injury to a child.

The child's mother, 20-year-old Crystal Marie Apreciado, was arrested and charged with injury to a child by omission for not reporting the abuse sooner, police said.

A woman who lives next door to Apreciado, who asked to remain anonymous, said Apreciado brought the little girl to her the day she was hospitalized and that she demanded she call 911.

"Her stomach was swollen like a lime. She was all pale yellow. She was weak," the woman said.

Police said the toddler is still recovering at the hospital and that Child Protective Services is involved.
