SAN ANTONIO – A man was fatally struck by a car on the Southeast Side while he was working on his stalled vehicle on Loop 410, police say.
The accident happened around 4 a.m. Friday on the main lanes of Loop 410 North near the Interstate 37 interchange.
Police said there was damage to both sides of 27-year-old Daniel Rodriguez's car leading them to believe he may have hit the guardrail before breaking down in the right lane of 410.
They said Rodriguez got out of the car, was on the phone and walked further onto 410 when he was struck.
He was dressed in black clothing and the driver who hit him told police she saw him too late and could not avoid the accident. Rodriguez was hurled nearly 30 feet, police said.
Police did not say whether the driver would be charged, but investigators said the accident was unavoidable and she did stop to render aid.
Traffic on Loop 410 North as well as both ramps from I-37 to 410 were shut down for about two hours while police cleared the scene.
