CPS Energy volunteers go fishing with local kids

Kids from Respite Care of San Antonio experience summertime favorite

SAN ANTONIO – Fishing is something every kid should get the chance to do at least once this summer, and one local company made sure that happened for dozens of local children.

Volunteers from CPS Energy hosted its 14th annual "Kids' Fish Day," at Calaveras Lake Park on Saturday.

Nearly 40 children from Respite Care of San Antonio had the opportunity to catch 672 catfish donated by the Texas Parks & Wildlife Department. Children were provided with a fishing rod, a loaded tackle box and bait.

For many of the children, it's the first time they've ever gone fishing.

"The first time they put out their fishing rod, they are so excited. You should have seen their faces," said Patty Gonzales, from CPS Energy's Corporate Responsibility department.

Respite Care provides services to families who have a child or loved one with a developmental disability.
