St. Cecilia's plans farewell mass for visiting statue

Our Lady of San Juan De Los Lagos, Mexico draws thousands to south-side church

St. Cecilia's Catholic Church is planning a farewell mass for the pilgrim statue of Our Lady of San Juan, from Los Lagos, Mexico.

Thousand of people have already visited the church to see the statue.

Over the last week, many services were standing-room only at times at St. Cecilia's all to see the statue many adore and have faith in.

"Faith is very important, they are reaching out ... to their mother," said the Father Ruben Garcia.

The statue is a popular focus for pilgrims. Its home is originally in state of Jalisco, in central Mexico, and is one of the most viewed pilgrimage shrines in Mexico.

In San Antonio, many feel blessed to have the opportunity to see the statue in person.

The steady stream of visitors to the church, along with requests, prompted the church to add an additional mass before the farewell mass.

There will be a mass at 5 and 7 p.m. Saturday. On Sunday, there will be a mass at 8 and 10 a.m. and noon, and the farewell mass starts at 6 p.m.
