"Wicked" brings fun, fundraiser to San Antonio

Musical runs through March 30

The popular musical "Wicked" is currently playing at The Majestic Theatre, as a three-week run in San Antonio comes to an end on March 30.

The musical, which kicked off in San Antonio on March 12, tells the untold story of the witches of Oz, and the unlikely friendship between Glinda and Elphaba, the two witches from the beloved 1939 movie, "The Wizard of Oz."

"It's kind of about their friendship. Glinda the Good and Elphaba," said actress Hayley Podschun, who has played Glinda for the past year as the tour makes its way across the country. "They meet in school and how they become the women who they are."

Podschun, a Kansas native, said just like the land of Oz, San Antonio has also proven to be a very special place.

"This has been one of our most vocal crowds we've had in a long time and it's really special," Podschun said. "We get the energy off of the audience, and if everyone's happy and applauding and sharing, it gives us a better show to do for them."

Though the show has many special effects, one of the most memorable is Glinda's bubble, which rises some 35-feet above the stage.

At the end of each performance three people may ride the Glinda Bubble for $300 each, with proceeds benefiting the San Antonio Aids Foundation.

In addition to raising money at the end of each show, company members will be hosting a special performance fundraiser on Thursday at 11:30 p.m. at The Bonham Exchange.

"Just come see us, we hope you enjoy the night," Podschun said. "Be as loud as you want, because we love it and we love meeting you."
