SAPD: Officer uses Taser on suspect during drug arrest

Suspect faces several charges in drug arrest on East Side

SAN ANTONIO – San Antonio police said an officer was forced to use his Taser on a suspect during a drug arrest on the East Side late Wednesday night.

SAPD officials said the officer was on patrol and saw what appeared to be a drug deal around 10:30 p.m. in the 800 block of Potomac near North New Braunfels Avenue and East Houston Street.

The officer said he saw a man leaning into a car and began to approach the vehicle.

The man standing outside the vehicle left while the suspect inside the car, 27-year-old Jonathan Guerra, backed into a driveway and began to walk towards a home.

The officer ordered Guerra to stop, but he refused, police said.

At some point, Guerra tried to grab the officer's gun, so the officer used his Taser on him, SAPD officials said.

Guerra was transported to University Hospital as a precaution.

Police said Guerra had marijuana inside his car, but was charged with evading arrest, resisting arrest and attempting to take a weapon from a police officer.
