SAN ANTONIO – A SWAT team standoff with a man early Sunday ended when he turned a shotgun on himself and fatally fired.
Police have now identified the man as 22-year-old Hector Morales-Esquivel.
The shooting happened just before 2 a.m. at an apartment complex in the 5900 block of Royalgate.
Police say Morales-Esquivel had barricaded himself in his apartment after arguing with a woman at a party, leaving and then returning armed with the shotgun.
Police say everyone inside left the apartment, leaving the man alone inside.
Responding officers called for the SWAT team and negotiators.
They say negotiators made contact with Morales-Esquivel and had him on the phone when they heard a muffled shot from inside the apartment.
Officers then rushed inside and found the man.
They say he died from self-inflicted gunfire.
