SAN ANTONIO – A panel of judges selected Miss Fiesta San Antonio 2015 Thursday night, crowning Alixzandra Peña with the honor.
The judges represent the Fiesta San Antonio Foundation and chose Peña from a group of seven finalists.
Peña was selected based on her project proposal, Promoting Higher Education to High School Students, and how it will be implemented.
"As a first-generation student in the educational school system, I know the gaps that are there. So how do you fill out FAFSA? Where do you start? What opportunities can you take advantage of in college? I feel like those are all things I can help assist with," Peña said.
Judges also took into consideration Peña's poise, appearance, presence, personality and presentation skills.
The new Miss Fiesta is a senior at the University of the Incarnate Word, where she is studying Financial Economics. Peña, a Floresville native, has plans to join the Air Force Reserves upon graduation and pursue law school.
Fiesta 2015 runs from Arpil 16-26.
