SAN ANTONIO – A 38-year-old San Antonio businessman was sentenced Monday to 30 months in federal prison for defrauding several financial institutions, according to the Department of Justice.
Court records show Marcus A. Garza owned several companies, including Auto nSure, which sold insurance policies, Liberty Pre-Owned Cars and Trucks, Marcus Garza Enterprises, LLC, which handled Garza's payroll matters, and eTax Express, Inc., which prepared tax returns.
The DOJ said that when Garza pleaded guilty on March 24, 2014, to one count of bank fraud and one count of failure to file an income tax, he admitted that from 2005 to 2009 he provided false income tax returns. He also admitted to not filing his taxes for 2006.
Garza was ordered to pay more than $680,000 in restitution for defrauding financial institutions.
