Man killed, suspect arrested in double shooting at NW Side hotel

Another man wounded in shooting at Express Inn off I-10 at Vance Jackson

SAN ANTONIO – Two men were shot, one fatally, and a suspect was arrested following a double shooting at a Northwest Side hotel early Tuesday morning.

San Antonio police received a call for shots fired just after 1 a.m. at the Express Inn off Interstate 10 and Vance Jackson.

According to SAPD officials, the suspect was arguing with a woman on the phone about her whereabouts.

He then went to the hotel where the woman was reportedly visiting with some people.

Police said the suspect banged on the guest room door, possibly got into an argument with someone inside and began to fire when the door was opened.

"My understanding is there was very little said," said Sgt. Javier Salazar with SAPD. "As soon as the door was open he started shooting. And unfortunately that one victim was shot fatally pretty soon."

Officers arrived at the scene at found a man who had been shot to death and another who had gunshot wounds to both legs.

The surviving victim was transported to University Hospital by paramedics.

Officers immediately set up a search area where the suspect was last seen running.

SAPD's EAGLE helicopter was requested to assist with the search and spotted the suspect running through an alley that was covered in heavy brush, an SAPD preliminary report stated.

A K-9 officer located the suspect and a weapon nearby. The suspect was then arrested and transported to the homicide office for questioning.

The preliminary report identified the suspect as 19-year-old Alejandro Rincon. Charges pending against Rincon included murder and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.

The name of the man who was fatally shot has not been released, but officers at the scene said he was 20-years-old.
