SAPD: Homeowner opens fire on repo man on West Side

SAPD: Bullets shatter back window of tow truck; Repo man injured by flying glass

SAN ANTONIO – A repo man was attempting to recover a car from a West Side home when a man who lives at the home opened fire on him early Thursday morning, San Antonio police said.

Mark Jiminez, 20, has admitted to firing the shots, police investigators said. He has not been charged in the shooting, and said he had no idea what the repo man was doing.

"I looked outside, because I heard the dogs barking, and that's when I saw a trailer loading up my mom's car," he said. "(I) came outside and asked him what he was doing three times. He didn't respond, and that's when I fired four shots."

The repo man drove to the 100 block of Alicia Avenue and called for help.

Bullets shattered the back window of the tow truck, and the repo man was cut by flying glass, but not shot, police said.

"He should have just at least answered me and said that he was a repo guy. He shouldn't have just run into his truck like that and tried to burn off," Jiminez said.

Nadia Lopez owns JNN Towing and Recovery -- not the repo company involved in the shooting.

She said she has seen plenty of situations that make her understand why the repo man might have been nervous and in a rush to leave.

On one job, she said she even thought a man might attack her husband.

"The (man's) girlfriend came out, and she's the one who said, 'Cap 'em,' and I turned at her, and you know -- I'm a large woman, so I kind have no fear -- but I turned at her and said 'Really?'" Lopez said.

She said she diffuses situations by asking people to be reasonable and consider whether a car is worth causing harm to another person.
