SAN ANTONIO – Louis Munoz, 36, has been arrested in connection with the shooting deaths of two men during a dispute Thursday morning outside the Clumsy Cricket Cantina on the city’s Northwest Side. San Antonio police said it stemmed from something especially trivial.
“Somebody was giving somebody a dirty look. Somebody gave somebody a bad look,” SAPD Sgt. Jesse Salame said. “It led to a physical confrontation, which ultimately led to the shooting.”
So far, the only information being released about the victims is that one man was 21 years old and the other was 40 years old. Salame said they may be related.
He said at one point, Munoz and one of the victims had been involved in a dispute inside the bar, located on Callaghan Road near Culebra Road. He said the second victim showed up after the disturbance spilled out into the parking lot, where both men where shot.
"Right now, we have reason to believe that the suspect is the only one that fired shots," Salame said.
He did note, however, that detectives found two guns -- one at the shooting scene and one inside a car with Munoz.
It seems police had the suspect in custody within minutes of the shootings, and before they even realized that anyone had been killed. Salame said an officer happened to be driving by at the time and heard the shots.
"He looked across the street in the direction the shots were coming from and saw a car leaving the bar parking lot at a high rate of speed," Salame said.
Officers then initiated a traffic stop, he said.
Salame said Munoz was a passenger in the car. Detectives also questioned the driver, but have not filed any charges against him.
Munoz, who has a lengthy criminal record dating back to the 1990s, was initially booked into jail on a charge of being a felon in possession of a weapon. He has also been charged with capital murder.
