Second suspect arrested in shooting death of 7-year-old girl

Jonathan Campos, 22, apprehended by Lone Star Fugitive Task Force

SAN ANTONIO – A 22-year-old man was arrested Tuesday in connection with the shooting death of a 7-year-old girl.

Deputy U.S. Marshal Chris Bozeman said Jonathan Campos was arrested at an apartment complex in the 2500 block of Clara Lane by the Lone Star Fugitive Task Force.

'I'm sorry about the little girl but I didn't do it," Campos said, while being escorted by SAPD officers to a patrol car.

Campos is the second suspect arrested in the death of Iris Rodriguez, who was shot and killed June 1 while walking with her mother along San Fernando Street on the city’s West Side. Her mother was also shot, but survived.

"We're still going to be relentless. We're giving this a good thorough investigation and we're not going to stop and we're not going to rest until everybody responsible for Iris's death is held accountable,” Doug Greene with SAPD said.

A funeral Mass was celebrated Tuesday morning for Iris.

Campos was wanted on a capital murder warrant.

Frank Gomez, 28, was arrested last week and charged with capital murder.
