SAN ANTONIO – A quick-thinking police officer saved a 5-year-old girl who was pinned under a car Thursday afternoon on the city’s Southwest Side, off the Loop 410 access road.

San Antonio police said a mother let her daughter out of the car at the beginning of a dirt driveway and let her run alongside the car.

The girl darted in front of the car and ended up pinned under the front tire.

Police said an officer on the scene was the one who was able to get her out.

“It's quick thinking. He ran back, got a jack out of his car to lift it up to save the girl's life. Talking to EMS personnel, had he not done that, she probably could have perished here at the scene,” said Detective Michael Moore, with the San Antonio Police Department.

The girl was taken by Airlife to University Hospital in serious condition. Police said she may have had internal injuries and a broken femur.

Police are calling it an accident and no charges are expected.
