Bus from First Baptist Church New Braunfels carrying senior adults
UVALDE COUNTY, Texas – The National Transportation Safety Board is investigating a crash that killed 12 people and left three others injured in Uvalde County Wednesday afternoon.
A group of seniors from the First Baptist Church in New Braunfels were involved, church officials confirmed.
The head-on crash between a pickup truck and a small van happened on Highway 83 near Garner State Park in Concan, just before 12:30 p.m.
Investigators said the truck heading north veered into the southbound lanes and crashed into the bus.
The Texas Department of Public Safety confirmed 14 people were in the bus and the driver was the only occupant in the truck. Only two people in the bus and the driver of the pickup survived the crash.
All lanes of the highway were closed for several hours between the park and Texas Highway 127 in Concan.
Church officials said the group was returning to New Braunfels from a Baptist encampment near Leakey, Texas, where they were attending a retreat.
All events at the church are canceled Wednesday night, with the sanctuary to be open for prayer and support.
