Man tells witness 'She had to die' after stabbing woman to death, arrest records say

SAN ANTONIO – "She had to die." Those are the words a man apparently said after he allegedly stabbed a woman to death.

KSAT reported Tuesday about the murder suspect finally being captured after being on the run for a month.

The U.S. Marshals arrested Carlos Salazar in Mexico this week, and he's now being held at the Bexar County Jail.

An arrest affidavit showed a number of witnesses helped identify him.

On April 2, police showed up to Cinthia Sanchez-Vargas' home on Santa Anna for an assault call.

First responders rushed Sanchez-Vargas to the hospital with critical stab wounds. She later died.

A witness told police Sanchez-Vargas had only been on a few dates with Salazar.

That witness was able to give police the man's first name, and another witness was able to provide a picture of him.

The arrest documents also said Salazar was living in a man's garage in San Antonio at the time. The man had told police the day of the murder that Salazar had asked him for a ride to his "work site" and to wait for him to get back.

The man said 40 minutes later, Salazar returned covered in blood and said: "She had to die."

The man told police that Salazar made him drive away, and while he did, Salazar threw a knife, a screwdriver and bloody clothes out the window.

The man was able to identify Salazar in a photo.

Officers have since looked for the murder weapon, but were unable to find it. Salazar is charged with murder.
