SAPD cadets visit Boys and Girls Club to interact with children of the community

SAN ANTONIO – A group of San Antonio police cadets paid a visit to the Boys and Girls Club on Thursday.

The cadet class of 2016 visited the Calderon branch of the club to tour the facility and hang out with the children.

The children got to learn more about the role police officers play in their neighborhoods.

The San Antonio Police Department hopes to help the cadets build relationships with their community.

"The most important community member that we feel the need to interact with is our children,” said Officer Eric Hernandez, with the SAPD. “It’s important to feel that the police are their friends at an early age.”

The Police Department said it wants to teach children to trust officers.
