SAN ANTONIO – The Texas Lions Camp in the Hill Country introduces a “can do” philosophy to children that are dealing with special medical conditions.
The camp has hosted over 70,000 children, including 150 different disabilities over the past 68 years.
“I feel like if I never came life would be different,” Lanie Wood, camper said. It’s Lanie Wood’s fourth year at the camp.

“I’ve been to another camp before but because this is meant for children with disabilities, it’s nice you are able to do things you aren’t able to do at other places,” Lanie said.
Not only does her brother attend the camp, but her sister attends as well.
Her sister Maddi is a counselor and decided to join after bringing her siblings their first year.
“My family being here is probably the greatest gifts that I have here. Just being able to see them at camp, Maddi said.
At the camp children are exposed to outdoor activities, in addition to arts and crafts.
“I have a lot of opportunities because of camp and lots of things have changed,” Lanie said.
The Wood family said they hope to continue participating at the camp for many years.
“It makes me feel proud that I’m part of something bigger. Something that can make them happy. Something that can show them that what they are doing and who they are is important," Maddi said. "And just because they are not like exactly everyone else that doesn’t mean anything,” Maddi said.
