SAN ANTONIO – The 77th annual Texas Cavaliers River Parade theme for 2018 will be Magnificent Missions.
The Texas Cavaliers River Parade is a one-of-a-kind parade started in 1941 and is now a staple of San Antonio’s annual Fiesta tradition.
George P. Bush, commissioner of Texas’s General Land Office, will be the honorary grand marshal.
The parade will honor the mission of the pioneering Spanish Catholics, whose mission was to settle San Antonio, and the philanthropic mission of the 61 children’s charities funded by the Cavaliers.
The historic missions of San Antonio were named a World Heritage Site in 2015 by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization.
Since 1989, the Cavaliers have given $5 million to support San Antonio’s children, with the majority of the funds coming from the annual Texas Cavaliers River Parade, according to a press release.
The official Fiesta medal will represent the UNESCO sites.
