Which Texas colleges reported the most violent crimes in 2016?

Crime statistics for Texas colleges, universities released

SAN ANTONIO – The Federal Bureau of Investigations released 2016 crime statistics for Texas colleges and universities on Monday. 

The report shows the number of violent crimes, murders/negligent manslaughter, rapes, robberies, property crimes, burglary, larceny/thefts and motor vehicle thefts that universities reported to the FBI in 2016.

It's important to note the data is self-reported by the schools and local law enforcement.

Only one university in Texas, the University of Texas, reported a murder/negligent manslaughter to the FBI in 2016 -- the death of UT student Haruka Weiser.

Police arrested 17-year-old Meechaiel Khalil Criner in Weiser's death.

KSAT 12 compiled crime data for Texas' ten largest colleges and universities as well as local colleges and universities.

Definitions

According to the FBI's UCR website, violent crime is defined as "murder and non-negligent manslaughter, rape, robbery, and aggravated assault. Violent crimes are defined in the UCR Program as those offenses that involve force or threat of force."

Rape is defined by the FBI as "penetration, no matter how slight, of the vagina or anus with any body part or object, or oral penetration by a sex organ of another person, without the consent of the victim. Attempts or assaults to commit rape are also included in the statistics presented here; however, statutory rape and incest are excluded."

KSAT 12 has combined robberies, property crimes, burglary, larceny/thefts and motor vehicle thefts in the data below to reach totals for the "Property Crimes*" section.
