Distribution of $11.3 million in student emergency aid begins in April
The colleges will begin distributing student emergency aid to students applying for it within the first two weeks of April. She said the allocated $11.3 million for student emergency aid from the CRRSA Act are a minimum because the act requires institutions to spend at least the same amount of money in student aid as was spent through the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security, or CARES Act, the first stimulus package approved in March 2020. More money from the $87.96 million is planned to be allocated into student emergency aid by the Senior Leadership Team, composed of Chancellor Mike Flores, vice chancellors and the presidents of the five colleges, she said. She said the website in use for emergency aid information will be updated with CRRSA Act information and criteria in early April. Northwest Vista College using pop up outdoor classrooms to help keep students safe
That is why campuses like Alamo College’s Northwest Vista College has transformed several of its spaces outside for when students come back to campus in the spring. “These kind of pop up classes give us really an expanded space and afford the teachers another venue to teach,” Rick Baser, the president of Northwest Vista College said. An area by the water is now where students can have a pop up lecture as well as enjoy the view. The college had already been working on taking advantage of its outdoor spaces before the pandemic struck. Rodriguez said research has shown the levels of productivity and engagement go up while students learn outside.
These are the busiest, slowest polling locations in Bexar County during early voting
Thursday, Oct. 29With one day left for early voting, 554,046 voters in Bexar County have already cast a ballot in-person. Previous elections have had 12 days of early voting, while 2020 will have 17 days of early voting due to a proclamation from Gov. That’s compared to 30,863 ballots cast on the ninth day of early voting in 2018, and 36,583 ballots cast on the ninth day of early voting in 2016. Compared to previous elections, 33,786 voted on the eighth day of early voting during the 2016 election and 31,260 voted on the eighth day of early voting in 2018. That’s compared to 34,020 ballots cast on the first day of early voting in 2018 and 35,431 ballots cast on the first day of early voting in 2016.

Lines of voters wrapped around buildings early on in the day at numerous sites, even those who showed up early were not guaranteed a quick ballot when voting began at 8 a.m. Tuesday morning. During the 2019 calendar year, 3,852 Northwest Vista College (NVC) students spent a total of 29,024 hours volunteering and serving the San Antonio community. Imagine if we were to add up all volunteer hours for every organization that Northwest Vista College students served over the colleges 25-year history. Each one of the colleges within the Alamo Colleges District: St. Philips College, San Antonio College, Palo Alto College, Northwest Vista College and Northeast Lakeview College has volunteer opportunities that propel students to become responsible members of their communities. SAN ANTONIO - There is a lot of stuff happening Saturday to get the family in the fall and Halloween spirit. The Fall Festival starts at 9 a.m., and includes arts and crafts, pumpkin and cookie decorating, Halloween-themed games, trunk or treat, carnival rides and more. Students from 1968 Re-enact Walkout to Help Unveil Changing the World Mural
The massive 7-foot-by-36-foot mural was commissioned by Northwest Vista College and created by award-winning artist Adriana M.J. Garcia. The projects theme emerged from community research and student surveys conducted at Northwest Vista College. Garcia said the projects focus on education is important to San Antonio because of its high rate of high school dropouts. This is indicative how family plays a critical role in our success.The mural received additional help from longtime San Antonio artist Roberto Sifuentes. She is a winner of the Jose Cuervo Traditional Mural Project, a national art competition, and presents at national conferences.therivardreport.com
