Man killed after crashing car through fence, backyard

Rollover reported around 1:30 a.m. in 2600 block of Green Leaf Way

SAN ANTONIO – A man was killed early Friday when his car crashed through a fence, flipped and rolled into the backyard of a home in East Bexar County.

According to Bexar County sheriff's deputies, the driver was traveling north on North Foster Road around 1:30 a.m. when he lost control of a black Mercedes and rolled through a fence in the 2600 block of Green Leaf Way, near North Foster Road and Interstate 10.

The vehicle didn't damage the home, deputies said.

Emergency crews transported the driver to San Antonio Military Medical Center, where he later died.

Ramiro Castro said the crash woke him up.

"The trampoline was flying, and right beside it was a car flipping. It was scary," he said.

Castro said he tried to help the driver, but he decided to allow first responders to treat the victim.

"When my daughter was calling the police, we were trying to see if he (the driver) was awake," he said. "The window was already broken, so we busted it open and tried to get him out. But when we saw he was bleeding, we just left him there."

Castro said the stretch of road where the crash happened is notorious for traffic troubles. He said a rollover was reported near his home last year.

"At night, it's real dark. You can't see, and there's a curb with bumpy roads. It's tough," he said.

Castro said he doesn't think the problem will go away, and he wants to make sure he is ready if it happens again.

"I'm going to have to put concrete over here in case something like this happens again, it won't go into my yard," he said.
