SAN ANTONIO – A prominent local businessman and former U.S. Ambassador passed away over the weekend.

Henry E. Catto Jr. reportedly died on Sunday from complications of leukemia.  
Catto was born in 1930 and attended Texas Military Institute in San Antonio before earning a degree from Williams College in Massachusetts.

For nearly 50 years, he was a partner in the local insurance brokerage firm Catto & Catto. He was also president of H&C Communications, which owned KSAT-12 for a short time.

Catto's career included two failed runs for the Texas Legislature, but he held several positions within the U.S. Government.

Catto served as Ambassador to El Salvador in the early 1970s, Ambassador to the United Nations Office at Geneva later in the decade and was appointed Ambassador to the United Kingdom by former President George H.W. Bush in late 1980s.

Catto and his family moved back to San Antonio in the early 90s where he became philanthropically involved in several local organizations.

Catto was married to the late Jessica Hobby. They had four children and 11 grandchildren.
