Man killed in suspicious house fire in north San Antonio

Body found at scene of fire on General Krueger Blvd.

A man has died in what San Antonio fire officials call a suspicious house fire on the North Side.

San Antonio firefighters responded to the fire in the 500 block of General Krueger Boulevard early Thursday morning.

Fire officials said a small detached apartment behind the main home was fully engulfed in flames when crews arrived.

Crews worked to extinguish the fire and then found the victim just inside the doorway of the detached home.

Fire officials said it appeared the victim was trying to escape when they were overcome by flames and smoke, but a cause of death was unknown Thursday morning.

Neighbors tell KSAT a man lived at the home, but officials have not said if that was the victim.

The arson unit was called to investigate a cause of the fire and said the car of the man who reportedly lives at the home was missing.

Two people were taken in for questioning including a woman who told investigators she suffered minor burns on her hands trying to get the victim out.

Fire officials did not say if any other property was damaged.
