Couple suspected of using baby stroller to shoplift

SAN ANTONIO – A couple used a baby stroller to steal items from a department store, an arrest affidavit stated.

Christina Contreras, 33, shoplifted from a Kohl's department store on Potranco Road on more than one occasion, the affidavit stated.

San Antonio police said Rene Trevino, 40, was the driver of the getaway car.

Both suspects were arrested on theft charges Tesday.

The couple also have prior arrests for theft. Contreras was out on bond stemming from another theft case at the time of her latest arrest, the affidavit stated.

A loss prevention worker at Kohl's told police that when he saw Contreras on the store's surveillance cameras Oct. 20, he recognized her as someone who had stolen from the business on prior occasions, the affidavit stated.

The loss prevention worker told police he saw Contreras take items from racks and shelves and place them into a baby stroller. She would then walk out of the store to a waiting car, the affidavit stated.

Police said the surveillance video also showed Trevino driving the getaway car with loss prevention workers pursuing them, the affidavit stated.

Both suspects were booked into the Bexar County Jail on Tuesday with bond set at $1,600 for Trevino and $10,000 for Contreras.
