SAPD: Death of woman found naked under bridge 'very suspicious'

Naked body discovered along Apache Creek

SAN ANTONIO – The Bexar County Medical Examiner's Office has not identified the body of a young woman found naked beneath a bridge over Apache Creek Thursday morning.

A San Antonio Police Department spokesman at the scene said the case is considered "a very suspicious death."

Police said a passerby walking to a bus stop first spotted the body about 10 a.m. near the intersection of Vera Cruz and Nueva Leon Street on the West Side.

They said it's believed she may have been killed there overnight. Police said it appears there were signs of trauma on her legs, but it will be up to the ME to determine the exact cause of death.

Several people rushed to the scene fearing their loved one was the woman in her late teens, early 20s, but police could not provide them any definite answers for the time being.

"It's sad. I have a daughter too. It breaks my heart to see situations like this," said onlooker Irma Casarez.

"It's sad to see another life gone too early," said Irma Rabago, who also was watching the activity at the crime scene.

"Around this area, there's lot of prostitution and people who use a lot of drugs," said Casarez.

Rabago agreed, pointing out there are resources to help them, "They don't want to change or maybe it's the peer pressure, their environment. It's hard to come out of it."

However, police said it is too early to say what led up to the woman's death.

Anyone with information on the woman or the circumstances leading to her death is asked to call SAPD.
