SAN ANTONIO – A 22-year-old man has been arrested on charges of burglary and criminal mischief stemming from a bizarre act of vandalism at a West Side community center run by Family Services and the Neighborhood Place.
Roel Cruz was taken into custody and booked into the Bexar County Jail on Wednesday.
The Edgewood Independent School District's police department investigated the incident which happened on Christmas Eve, according to an arrest affidavit.
The affidavit stated that a school district detective responded to a burglary call at the center in the 3000 block of Rivas Street, and found threatening and violent sayings and drawings on the inside walls that were painted in way to look like blood.
Workers at the community center feared for their safety due to the nature of the messages, and a program that involved giving away holiday gifts and food to needy families was interrupted.
Police said they have video evidence of the crime and that Cruz later wrote a confession admitting to doing it, the affidavit stated.
