SAN ANTONIO – A person's hunch has led to the arrest of Kevin Hartsfield, 38, a man who allegedly was caught with a carload of stolen property, according to an arrest affidavit.

The affidavit stated that someone in a west Bexar County neighborhood called the sheriff's office on Dec. 23 after noticing a suspicious vehicle in the 900 block of Trilby Street.

Deputies arrived and found Hartsfield, who was "impaired" and had bloodshot eyes, inside the car, the affidavit stated.

Hartsfield told them he had had too much to drink and was sleeping it off.

Deputies searched him and his vehicle. They said they discovered drugs and drug paraphernalia on him, as well as some stolen items and what appeared to be burglary tools inside his vehicle, the affidavit stated.

Among the items were cell phones, purses, jewelry and five troy ounces of silver.

The affidavit stated that when investigators questioned Hartsfield, he admitted that he had been committing car burglaries in order to fund his drug habit.

Detectives later tracked down the owner of the recovered cell phones, and he told them the phones and other items were stolen from his home during a burglary a few days prior, the affidavit stated.

A charge of theft was filed against Hartsfield on Thursday.
