Married couple arrested for theft of yard tools

Francisco Rios-Cerda, Alma Gonzales charged with burglary

ALAMO HEIGHTS, Texas – Francisco Rios-Cerda, 38, and his wife, Alma Gonzales, 37, are partners in life who are also accused of being partners in crime. Both have been arrested in connection with a burglary case.

An arrest warrant affidavit stated that Alamo Heights police had received a report about a burglary Jan. 22. The victim told investigators that about $4,000 worth of tools, including drills, saws and a hedge trimmer, had been stolen from his property.

The affidavit stated that detectives also obtained serial numbers for the stolen items from the victim, then located them through an online pawn shop database.

Police said they found evidence showing that both Rios-Cerda and Gonzales had pawned some of the items.  They also obtained surveillance video from some of the businesses, the affidavit stated.

The victim told police he had hired Rios-Cerda to do some yard work but did not give him permission to take the tools, the affidavit stated.  Police said Gonzales and Rios-Cerda are married.

Both suspects were booked into the Bexar County jail Tuesday on a charge of burglary.
