Woman facing charges after leading police on chase, causing crash

Kimberly Pena, 23, had been under surveillance

SAN ANTONIO – A woman wanted for allegedly leading members of a task force on a dangerous chase which ended with one of them crashing into a home has been captured.

San Antonio police arrested Kimberly Pena, 23, Wednesday.

An arrest warrant affidavit says members of a drug task force had been conducting surveillance on Pena when they noticed her leaving a business on S. Acme Road June 9.

The affidavit says they tried to initiate a traffic stop on her but Pena kept going, leading them on a chase throughout a nearby neighborhood.

At one point, two of the pursuing vehicles collided, with one of them then crashing into a home, the affidavit said.

Police said Pena eventually bailed out of her car and ran away.  The affidavit says neighbors took cell photos of her, showing her running away carrying what police believe was a bag of illegal drugs.

A warrant was issued for her arrest about a week later.  Pena was booked into jail Wednesday on a charge of evading arrest.
