Confessed killer handed 2 life sentences, leaves courtroom singing

Frank Campos' sentences to run consecutively

SAN ANTONIO – Throughout his sentencing hearing in two murder cases, Frank Campos, 46, smiled frequently at the families of his victims and seemed to taunt them by singing as he left the courtroom following his sentencing.

Campos, as part of a plea bargain, pleaded guilty to the murders of Michael Otten and Anthony Reams.

The men were shot multiple times during an argument in Otten’s garage on Jan. 16, 2015.

He was initially charged with capital murder but pleaded guilty to murder as part of the plea agreement. He also pleaded guilty to the murder of Steven Vazquez in an unrelated case.

Judge Jefferson Moore sentenced Campos to life in prison in each case and ordered that the sentences run consecutively.

During the victim impact statements in the hearing, Otten’s widow told how she learned of her husband’s slaying.

“I just kept thinking, ‘If I can get there, I can fix it and make it OK,’” she sobbed. “But I couldn’t fix it.”

Reams’ sister, Lea, recalled the manner in which her brother died, saying, “No one would deserve to be chased down by someone else and shot in their back and in their head.”
