Man dies after being shot in front of home on South Side

Shooting reported in 100 block of West Vestal Place

SAN ANTONIO – A man was shot and killed in front of his home Monday afternoon on the city's South Side.

Police Chief William McManus said a Ford Focus drove up to a home around 1:15 p.m. in the 100 block of West Vestal Place, where up to three people got out of the car and asked for the man by name.

The men in the car started beating the man up when he pulled out a gun and started shooting, McManus said.

Good Samaritan killed in hit-and-run identified

The men ran back to the car, but one of them managed to grab a gun and shot the man, hitting him twice in the upper torso, McManus said.

The man was taken to San Antonio Military Medical Center where he later died.

McManus said one of the men may have been hit by gunfire.

Man arrested after stabbing brother-in-law in neck

The men got away, McManus said.

No motive was known for the shooting, but McManus said the shooting wasn't a random act of violence.

The victim is believed to be a man in his 20s.
