Police investigating gun battle on city's East Side

Incident was reported just after 4 a.m. near Hays St, N New Braunfels Ave

SAN ANTONIO – San Antonio police responded to a number of calls about a gun battle on the city's East Side early Tuesday morning.

The shooting was first reported just after 4 a.m. near the Hayes Food Mart located at the intersection of Hays Street and North New Braunfels Avenue.

According to police, when they arrived at the scene they found multiple shell casings from two different weapons, blood in at least two places, as well as both cash and car keys.

Officials said they believe a gun battle occurred as several people picked up the sound of gunfire.

Police said a short while later they were notified that a shooting victim had shown up at San Antonio Military Medical Center looking for treatment. 

Military police stopped the vehicle that dropped him off and kept the people from leaving. Inside the vehicle officers found what they believe to be illegal drugs, police said.

On Sunday, three people were shot outside the Hayes Food Mart when someone drove by firing more than 16 shots. At this time, it is not known however, if the two shootings are connected.
