SAN ANTONIO – Chacho’s Restaurants is attempting to specialize in much more than just breakfast tacos and its 24-hour Mexican food service, moving into unknown territory by opening its first fried chicken restaurant.

The Texas-owned business is opening up “Chacho’s Chicken” on the city’s Far West Side, on the access road of Highway 90 West and West Military Drive.

According to Google Maps, the previous restaurant at that location was a Church’s Chicken.

In a job listing posted to Craiglist, Chacho’s Restaurants said it plans to open the fried chicken joint in mid-November and is “confident (it) will be the highest volume quick service restaurant selling bone-in fried chicken anywhere.”

However, in a post shared Monday to Reddit, a photo shows the new establishment still closed with a sign saying, “Chacho’s Chicken, opening soon, apply inside.”

An email sent to Chacho’s Restaurants was not immediately returned.

Chacho’s was founded in 1988 with its first location in San Antonio and has since added six more locations expanding into Houston.
