Woman shoots ex-boyfriend at NE Side motel, claims self defense, police say

Man suffered life threatening chest wounds

SAN ANTONIO – A woman who shot her ex-boyfriend at a Northeast Side motel told San Antonio police she acted in self defense.

The 33-year-old woman called 911 shortly before 4:30 a.m. Monday, telling them she had just shot the man in a room at a Motel 6 located near Interstate 35 and Thousand Oaks.

When officers arrived however the man was gone.

A few minutes later, they received another 911 call directing them to a 7-Eleven convenience store at I-35 and O’Connor Road.

They said they found the man, suffering from two gunshot wounds to his upper body, in the back seat of a sport utility vehicle in the store parking lot.

The man was taken to a hospital by ambulance.

Police detained and questioned a woman who had driven him to the store.

Investigators at the motel meanwhile also questioned the woman who shot him.

They say she told them her ex-boyfriend, who recently was released from prison, had shown up earlier in the evening and caused a disturbance.

She said she thought he left, but when she opened her door to go to a laundry room, he suddenly forced his way in.

The woman told police her ex-boyfriend, who is in his 30s, pulled out a knife and tried to sexually assault her. Instead, she said she shot him.

Police at the scene said it’s too early to tell if her self-defense claim will hold up, and that it will be up to homicide investigators to make that determination.
