SAPD: Boy, 8, covered in blood after fatal stabbing of father

1 dead, 1 injured in stabbing in 8200 block of Shooting Quail

SAN ANTONIO – One man is dead and another was injured following a stabbing Tuesday afternoon on the Northwest Side.

San Antonio Police chief William McManus said a 55-year-old man and a 67-year-old man got into a fight inside a home in the 8200 block of Shooting Quail.

An 8-year-old boy who is a son of the younger man, was also inside, McManus said.

"(He) came running out covered in blood. He went to a neighbor (and) told the neighbor, 'My dad has been stabbed," he said.

The 55-year-old man was pronounced dead at the scene. The boy, despite being covered in blood, was not physically injured, McManus said.

Just minutes before the boy came out, the elder man had called police and told them there was disturbance involving his roommate, McManus said.

Wendy Hilliard said she is pretty sure the victim was her brother.

"I tried to describe him to them, but they said that they won't know anything until they get the body downtown and identify it," she said.

Hilliard said while she was shocked over her brother's death, she wasn't surprised.

"He's had some scuffles in the past. But as far as shock, that there would be a stabbing in the middle of the day. You know that it got so violent," she said.

The 67-year-old man, who McManus said is claiming self-defense, suffered facial injuries. Authorities said the man is cooperating with police.

McManus didn't know what triggered the argument.
