SAN ANTONIO – A theft suspect identified as 21-year-old Stephen Hernandez is not only accused of committing several crimes but also leaving behind some big clues for police, including his ID card and fingerprints.
An arrest affidavit stated that a jewelry salesperson at South Park Mall told San Antonio police a man had walked up to her kiosk and asked to examine an expensive gold chain.

The woman said she asked for the man's ID card due to the value of the jewelry. She said he turned over his ID, then grabbed the chain and ran out of the mall, the affidavit stated. Police said the ID card belonged to Hernandez.
In a separate case a few days later, police said Hernandez was with a woman when she committed a similar crime at a South Side pawn shop.
The affidavit stated that she and Hernandez entered the business in the 6400 block of SW Loop 410 on Sept. 14 and began looking at jewelry in a case.
It stated that when the woman asked for a closer look at the jewelry, Hernandez walked outside to a waiting car.
The woman then grabbed the items and ran out of the shop, leaving behind her ID card, the affidavit stated.
A pawn shop worker who had already grown suspicious was standing outside and tried to stop the woman as she ran out, the affidavit stated.
Police said at that point, Hernandez began fighting with the worker. Both suspects got away, but the pawn shop employee was able to pull off Hernandez's cap and shirt, which he turned over to police, the affidavit stated.
Detectives said they found Hernandez's fingerprints on the counter inside the pawn shop, the affidavit stated.
He was arrested Wednesday on charges of robbery and theft and it appears he also had warrants for two counts of aggravated robbery.
There's no mention in the affidavit of the woman being charged.
