New Braunfels police and fire officials are investigating the death of a 37-year-old man found in his home following a fire they believe may have been set on purpose.

More than 100 people had to evacuate their homes due to a chemical leak at a New Braunfels food production plant.

Leighton Adams, a junior, will miss Friday’s playoff game at Jerry Comalander Stadium against Reagan due to his injuries, reports indicate.

A road closure brought on by a huge mulch fire in New Braunfels could remain in effect for several more hours as fire crews work in the area.

NEW BRAUNFELS, Texas – A 16-year-old student was arrested and charged with arson after intentionally setting a fire at Canyon High School, according to the New Braunfels Fire Department. The fire happened at 4:30 p.m., Thursday at the high school, which is located in the 1500 block of I-35 North. Other school staff members had already evacuated the building, and no injuries were reported. Officials determined the fire was intentionally set by the 16-year-old student, who was later arrested at his home in New Braunfels. Canyon High School officials issued a statement on the incident, saying they are grateful no injuries or damages resulted from the fire.

SAN ANTONIO – The City of Boerne announced Tuesday that Ray Hacker was promoted to fire chief. Hacker, 57, has been serving as the interim fire chief since the retirement of the city’s long-time chief, Doug Meckle, in June. Hacker is from Boerne and graduated from Boerne High School, according to a statement from the city. City Manager Ben Thatcher said the city is excited to have Hacker in the role as both a pillar of the community and an experienced leader. Boerne underwent a two-month-long internal search process led by Deputy City Manager Jeff Thompson, according to a statement from the city.
